JANESVILLE Gerald G. Pierce, 79, a resident of Evansville Manor, who is better known as "Grandpa" throughout the world, died at the Madison Veterans Administration Hospital on Monday, Feb. 7, 2005.
Gerald was born in Janesville on Dec. 15, 1925, the son of Merrill and Edna (Roehl) Pierce. He married Doris Perleberg on Aug. 25, 1944. Mr. Pierce was a longtime Janesville resident and a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II. He formerly was employed as a finish carpenter and also as a truck driver by W. R. Arthur and Janesville Auto Transport Co. He was a life-member of the D.A.V.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Doris; 3 children: Vicki (Kenneth) Bartz of Blanchardville, WI, Valerie (David) Heider of Janesville and Timothy (Janet) Pierce of Edgerton; 9 grandchildren: Keefe (Patty) Bartz, Trena (Steve) Pazynski, Gerald (Dawn) Heider, Holly (Tim) Noblock, Corey (Shinar Fugate) Heider, Tiffany, Mathew, Lindsey and Domini Pierce; 8 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Merrill Pierce of Corpus Christi, TX.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters and a brother.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME, Janesville, with Pastor Thomas Carney officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, with military rites by Kienow-Hilt V.F.W. Post #1621. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. Sunday at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME.
