A special ceremony will be held at noon Thursday to honor Miracle the buffalo.

Miracle, the formerly white buffalo, died Sept. 19 at the Dave and Valerie Heider Farm. The white buffalo was considered a sacred figure to some American Indian Tribes. Legend has it that her arrival would herald an era of peace and understanding.

Dave Heider expects that members of the Sioux and Cherokee tribes from South Dakota and Canada will be on hand to participate in the ceremony.

The ceremony is open to the public. The Heider farm is located at 2739 South River Road.
